Thursday 24th February was this year’s charity presentation evening, in which the money raised by our two big races is presented to the years nominated charities. The evening was well attended and three out of the four charities were represented. The four charities nominated were:
William’s Fund – supporting research into childhood cancers. Unfortunately, this charity was unable to send a representative so Liz spoke briefly about the charity and its aims and received the cheque on behalf of William’s Fund which will be sent off to them.
Alzheimer’s Society (Beaconsfield Branch) – Eric Abbott introduced the charity representatives who gave a very interesting and informative talk about the work of the society and the setting up of memory cafes as part of their work to support those with dementia and their families.
Prostate Cancer (Chilterns Branch) – John Irwin introduced this charity and the representatives updated us on how last year’s donation had been used and the work that is currently being undertaken.
National Society for Epilepsy – Liz introduced this charity and the representative gave us a very interesting update on current research into epilepsy and how much of this was being carried out at the NSE in Chalfont St Peter.
The charities are chosen by BJs and agreed at the AGM – so if you would like to support a local charity for next year, please talk to anyone on the committee for details about the selection criteria and how to put forward your chosen charity for nomination.
