Hi Fellow BJs

UPDATE:
Please see comment posted by Glen (click on comments link above)

For those who are not yet aware Peter Riley sadly died last Tuesday whilst out on a training run with a couple of his colleagues.

Peter, who although left the Club last year, had been a constant member for the last 30 years and my abiding memory of him besides his cheerful disposition and downright generosity to his fellow running colleagues, was our build up  to the Staggered Jog trophy in 1989 which I just pipped him for in the final race. Peter was the first person to come up and congratulate me and then promptly buy me a pint of beer. That was the sort of guy Peter was and he will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.

As a tribute a number of BJs ran together at the back of the Black Park 5k on Saturday and 8 of us did the Burnham Beeches 10k again on Saturday morning. The organisers read out a brief tribute to Peter prior to the start which generated a spontaneous round of applause which I felt was an appreciation of a fellow runner no longer with us.

His family have requested that rather than flowers a donation to The British Heart Foundation would be preferred.

Margaret felt that those wishing to attend, Peter would have liked BJs to wear a Club top or at least the Club colours of green and gold.

Peter’s other passion was his beloved Slough Town Football Club and his football chums will be wearing Slough Town colours and Peter is to be buried in his team’s top.

As a Club our thoughts must now be with Margaret and his son Glen and I know a few BJs who knew Peter and his family well will be a constant support for Margaret over the coming months.
